According to the latest survey released by ConditionNutrition.com, 45.75% of respondents believe that taking over the counter heath products have no preventative effect on swine flu. The informal survey gathered so far has gathered 1248 responses where 571 people, or 45.75%, felt health products had no effect and 677 individuals, or 54.25% believed that these products do in fact prevent the onset of swine flu. With growing reports daily of new swine flu cases in numerous states, Joseph A. Sochet, Esq., President of Condition Nutrition, is surprised that more respondents don?t feel that ?taking health products would be a great preventative measure by increasing peoples? immune system and encouraging a healthy lifestyle.?
Looking at the swine flu statistically, most deaths have occurred from individuals who had previous underlying health conditions. In a recent article published by the New York Times, doctors from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) believe that ?underlying conditions like asthma, diabetes, heart disease or tuberculosis appear to put swine flu victims at greater risk of hospitalization or death? ? according to nytimes.com/2009/05/09/health/09flu.html. While over the counter health products don?t necessarily cure these conditions, they do help prevent their onset. Furthermore, other sources such as MSNBC suggest that pregnant women are also more susceptible to swine flu because ?pregnancy weakens a woman?s immune system, so that she?s more likely to suffer pneumonia when she catches the flu? according to msnbc.msn.com/id/30398682/. These reports suggest that maintaining one?s health does in fact help prevent catching swine flu. Like most illnesses, your lifestyle is one of the most important preventative measures.
Why 45.75% of respondents believe over the counter health products don?t increase one?s immunity to swine flu suggests that ?people believe the swine flu is more serious and insidious than the average seasonal flu,? explains Mr. Sochet. One respondent to the survey believed that ?the swine flu is beyond the control of the average individual.? Another suggested that ?while health products do increase the immune system, they are not enough to prevent such an epidemic.? Most respondents who agreed that health products help prevent swine flu believed it was mainly due to a stronger immune system. For example, one respondent stated that over the counter health products are a great preventative measure because ?improving your health is best defense against any illness.?
According to conditionnutrition.com, individuals who eat healthy, exercise and supplement their diet should not fear contracting swine flu. ?Most fitness enthusiasts and athletes, do in fact, have stronger immune systems than those who do not exercise and show no regard for their health in general,? states Mr. Sochet. Conditionnutrition.com attributes peoples fear and anxiety to the stories broadcasted through all forms of news and media. Instead of understanding the illness itself, people just react to what they hear and see.
In an effort to be a leading resource in health and vitamin supplements, additional surveys will be released on topics from the health insurance debate as well as other breaking news stories related to health and fitness.
