ISLAMABAD: Pakistan?s first communication Satellite PAKSAT-1R, ?? a ??rt ?f Pakistan?s Space Programme-2040, w?? launched ?n Thursday ?t 2117 hours ?n board China?s Satellite Launch Vehicle fr?m th? Xichang Satellite Launch Centre.

Above ?n? beyond others, launch w?? witnessed b? Secretary Defence Lt Gen Syed Athar Ali (r), Secretary Foreign Affairs, Salman Bashir, Director General, Strategic Plans Division Lt Gen Khalid Ahmed Kidwai (retd) ?n? Ambassador ?f Pakistan t? China, Muhammad Masood Khan, ???? a press release issued here.

PAKSAT-1R h?? a total ?f 30 transponders, 12 ?n C-band ?n? 18 ?n Ku-band.? Th? satellite w??? b? deployed ?t 380E ?n th? Geo-stationary orbit ?n? ?t w??? exchange th? existing satellite PAKSAT-1.

PAKSAT-1R h?? a design life ?f 15 years ?n? w??? provide TV broadcasting, Internet ?n? data communication services ??r??? South ?n? Central Asia, Eastern Europe, East Africa ?n? th? Far East. Th?? satellite now enables extending ?f communication services t? ??? areas ?f Pakistan.

It m?? b? recalled th?t th? National Command Authority (NCA) ???t approved Pakistan?s Space Programme-2040 during ?t? meeting ?t th? Strategic Plans Division (SPD) ?n 14 July 2011.?

Earlier, th? contract f?r th? development ?f PAKSAT-1R w?? signed between Pakistan Space ?n? Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) ?n? China F?nt??t?? Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC) ?n October 2008 during th? visit ?f th? Head ?f Pakistan t? China.

Pakistani engineers h??? worked closely w?th th??r Chinese counterparts during ??? stages ?f development ?f th? satellite ?n China. S?m? experimental units developed ?t SUPARCO h??? ???? b??n integrated ?n th? satellite f?r technology evaluation.

China ?n? Pakistan h??? ????? more th?n 20 years ?f cooperation ?n Space Science, Technology ?n? Applications.

Th? launch ?f Paksat-1R Satellite ?? a major milestone f?r both countries towards increase ?f th?? cooperation. SUPARCO w??? take up again ?t? efforts f?r launching ?f ?th?r satellites including Remote Sensing Satellites, t? ensure th?t th? space technology applications fully contribute t? socio-economic development ?n? national security ?n Pakistan.
