Breast cancer ? Tumor became more aggressive, tripled in size after chemotherapy?Hi! My mom had a PET-CT performed in August, 2008, which showed the following results:
-Multifocal pure mucinous carcinoma with 2 axis:
The 1st one measuring 4.1 cm in its longest axis, located in the upper quadrants.
The 2nd one measuring 2.2 cm in its longest axis, located in the exterior quadrants.
Well-differentiated, Scarf-Bloom Richardson score 4/9 (minimum is 3)
No vascular/perineural/perinodal invasion
After 4 rounds of AC and 1 one round of TC, mastectomy was performed in January, and the pathology results are in:
2 invasive tumours found in the breast:
The 1st one is a pure mucinous carcinoma, measuring 7 x 6 x 4 cm, located in the upper quadrants.
Moderately differentiated, Nuclear grade 2/3 (Black modified system)
The 2nd one is a mixed mucinous/ductal invasive carcinoma, measuring 6 x 3 x 2 cm, located in the exterior quadrants.
Poorly differentiated, Nuclear grade 3/3 (Black modified system)
Lymphatic/Vascular/Perinodal invasion is everywhere in both tumours
8/18 axillary lymph nodes tested positive for the 2nd tumour
I?ve read a few articles that show possible tumor mutation after cyclophosphamide treatment, where the disease mutated and became much more aggressive, although I haven?t found any articles related to this mutation for breast cancer. If anyone has any similar experiences/information to the case described above your input would be greatly appreciated and could be life-saving. Thanks a lot in advance!

There are some oncologist that scan this category, but if one does not I will offer my opinion. I believe that only a qualified medical doctor can answer the question for you.
I am sure her oncologist will give your mom their best recommendations on the steps they will use to combat it. I am sure there is probably a team of doctors that the oncologist will present the results of this report to and they will also review the lab report and give their suggestions.
So trust them they will do what your mom needs to get through this and live many long years. Trust your team and if you do not understand anything, ask. There are no dumb questions when it comes to fighting cancer.

I think you may have your reports intermingled as the PET results are a mix of radiological and pathological terms. A radiologist would never state the histology (mucinous carcinoma) or the Bloom Richardson score in their report, as they cannot tell that from a PET scan. These findings sound like they are from a biopsy.
Sometimes the radiologist will add the pathological finds as an addendum to the report of a biopsy they did, but breast biopsies are not done with PET scans.
Regardless of this the tumors did grow. Your mother?s case is very unusual in a couple of aspects. For one it is rare for mucinous carcinoma to occur in the breast. The second is she actually has two cancers in the same breast, not simply two tumors, and this too rarely happens. We know it is two cancers as each tumor has a different histology and it appears the doctors thought they were dealing with one based on the language I presumed was from the biopsy.
I wish I could tell you more than this. I don?t know why they grew. It is really something you should speak to her oncologist about. I also think your mom needs a second opinion. Not because I think there is anything wrong with her doctor. It?s always a good idea to get a second opinion with a serious disease and hers is so unusual it warrants it even more. You might suggest a teaching hospital for the second opinion. Also you can request a drug essay to be done on the tumors. This will tell you what drugs the tumors are sensitive to.
