A former power plant worker who checked into the hospital to treat what he thought was a chest infection was diagnosed with extensive lung cancer and died on the same day as he was admitted.
Victims of lung cancer who have developed the disease due to past asbestos exposure are often able to attain compensation by contacting an asbestos lawyer.
The family of John Saunders revealed this to the Flax Bourton Coroners Court recently, according to the Weston Mercury. The 89-year-old, who used to work at Portishead Power Plant, was checked into a hospital in February of last year, and was diagnosed with lung cancer. The disease had progressed far, and he had a ?high volume? of blood in his airways. As a result, he died four hours after a routine procedure was performed on his throat ? on the same day he was admitted, the coroners court heard.
Assistant deputy coroner Gail Elliman ruled that it was ?more likely than not? that Saunders' cancer death was caused by 20 years of asbestos exposure, and recorded a verdict of industrial disease, the news provider reports.
