Huawei Ascend D Quad delayed?
The Verge are reporting that the Huawei Ascend D Quad, that we first got hands on with at MWC back in February, is suffering a delayed release due to its powerful chipset.
Posting on the Chinese microblogging site Weibo yesterday, Yu Chengdong revealed that Huawei was experiencing "technical problems" with its ambitious K3V2 system-on-chip. But he noted that the company's R&D division was "stepping up efforts" to get it ready.
This news certainly will not do Huawei any favors with the likes of the HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S III already being on sale. The Ascend D Quad is on par with the forementioned handsets specs wise and will be Huawei's flagship device this year.
The 4.5 inch 720P high definition touchscreen 'beast' is powered by Huawei's K3V2 quad-core 1.2GHz/1.5GHz processor so is set to give the other big players a run for their money.
Fingers crossed Huawei can iron out any problems sooner rather than later.

Subway to scantily-clad women: It?s your fault if you?re harassed

BEIJING ? For women in Shanghai looking to beat the heat this summer with skimpier clothes, the city?s subway authorities have a message: dress appropriately or be ready to deal with the inevitable sexual harassment.?
The controversy online started on June 20 when someone posted on the Shanghai Number 2 Subway Line official Weibo account ? Chinese version of Twitter ? a picture?of a female passenger wearing a revealing dress with the comment: ?If that?s what you wear on the subway, then no wonder you will be sexually harassed! There are perverts riding the subway every day and we can?t catch them all. Girls, you?ve got to respect yourself!?
Outrage over the comment was swift and voluminous, quickly becoming the second-most discussed topic on Weibo with nearly 16,000 forwards and 7,000 comments tagged to the original post alone.
No right to judge!
The overwhelming number of comments condemned the message and its insinuation that revealing dress could be viewed as an invitation for harassment; branding it blatant gender discrimination.?
"It's a woman?s business to choose what to wear, if laws or your regulations do not forbid her from dressing like this, you [the Metro] have no right to chastise them,? wrote one commentator. ?If your logic were right, then all men would harass women in the swimming pool.?
?You have the right to judge whether people are dressing elegantly or not.? And you have the right to like it or not,? wrote another critic of the Shanghai Metro. ?But you have no right to harass anyone!??
Some people also raised questions about the fact that the Shanghai Metro staff took a photo of the unwitting passenger in the first place, and, adding insult to injury, used the photo in its controversial public service announcement.?
Zhejiang Province Police
The Zhejiang province police department's diagram meant to give women guidance on how men's lurking eyes can lead to sexual harrassment.
?First I think the Metro has no right to insult others, especially their passengers. It's a matter of professional decency,? wrote Hao Junbo, a lawyer on Weibo. ?If the Metro published this person's picture without approval beforehand, it violates the passenger's rights.?
Responding to the criticism, Lan Tian, a press officer for Shanghai Shentong Metro Group, the authority that runs the Shanghai subway, justified the company?s comments to the Chinese state newspaper Global Times.
"As the city's subway operator, we have the responsibility to warn women of the potential danger of sexual harassment on the subway," he told the Global Times. "At the same time, we are not justifying any kind of sexual harassment or inappropriate behavior."?
Nevertheless, perhaps inspired by the general sentiment expressed online, a couple days later on June 24, several women went to another subway station in Shanghai to protest the Weibo post by the Shanghai Metro.
Donning black veils that covered their faces and holding signs that said things like, ?Just because I'm slutty doesn't mean you can be dirty,? the girls rode the subway in an attempt to call attention to the issue.
Interestingly, this time though, online sentiment was against the protestors, with many arguing that women should in fact dress more conservatively while riding the subway. A recent online poll by Sina Weibo found that 55 percent of over 10,000 people agreed with that sentiment.
Elaborate diagrams to thwart harassment
By all accounts, reports of sexual harassment on the Shanghai metro have been on the rise this year. An editorial in Wednesday?s edition of China?s People?s Daily noted that there had been seven cases of sexual harassment since May of this year.
There has been a greater emphasis nationally to raise awareness about sexual harassment and to educate Chinese women on how to protect themselves. But some of the recent articles on how to avoid becoming a victim of sexual harassment verge on the ridiculous.?
A recent article by the popular Chinese web portal, QQ, includes a number of graphics showing how men attempt to harass women by looking up skirts on elevators or even when women try on shoes at department stores. ?
But this diagram put out on the Zhejiang province police department?s official Weibo account earlier this year was perhaps the most puzzling. It looks like an elaborate SAT math question requiring a thorough grounding in geometry. For example, the second and third illustrations are designed to help women understand the angles at which men can position their heads or bodies to look up their skirts while riding the subway.
If the diagram is confusing already with its multiple diagrams, consider the English translation of the explanation:
?If the eyes of the ?observer?, i.e.?the point?E,?is right on the extension of?segment BC, then point B would fall into his eyesight. Then, let's make another?line?of DE which goes through E and is?perpendicular to?the extension of AC, then the right triangle of DEC is similar to the?right triangle of ABC. So clearly, the length of DC is the horizontal?distance between the man's eye and the lady?s skirt.?Ladies, have you figured that out???

Anthrax Settle Legal Battle With Former Singer - Starpulse.com

Thrash metal band Anthrax have settled a lawsuit with former frontman Dan Nelson.
Singer Nelson launched a legal battle against bassist Frank Bello, drummer Charlie Benante, and guitarist Scott Ian last year over his sudden departure from the group on the eve of its European tour in 2009.
On Monday, both parties set aside their differences in a New York federal court and came to an agreement.
Although the details of the settlement will remain confidential, Bello reportedly appeared agitated as he exited the courtroom, telling the New York Post, "I've got to put a Band-Aid (bandage) on my tongue from biting it so much."

Last month, just as "The Voice" was wrapping its second season, reports began to circulate about a growing feud between judges Christina Aguilera and Adam Levine, one that supposedly involved plenty of behind-the-scenes bitching, more than a few temper tantrums and (quite possibly) one very public use of the c-word.
Of course, given that the show was heading toward its finale, one could reasonably assume some of that drama may have been cooked up to draw in viewers, though there were on-air moments where the tension between Aguilera and Levine seemed very real indeed. So, when Levine and his Maroon 5 mate James Valentine sat down with MTV News to premiere their brand-new "One More Night" video, we had to ask him about the feud. And while Levine didn't deny on-set friction, he let it be known that things have truly been blown out of proportion.
"We bickered a little bit in the beginning, to be totally truthful, we had a little bit of a rough start, just kind of all getting to know each other," he said. "But I love her, she's the best, and we're having a fantastic time as of late on the set. She's great, and all of that is sensationalized media BS ... so don't worry about any of that."
And while Levine made it clear that he'd much rather be discussing Maroon 5's just-released Overexposed album, he understands that rumors like this are all part of living life beneath the glare of the spotlight. And he's not exactly losing any sleep over that fact.
"It affects you as much as you let it. I mean, I know the deal, so as long as I do, it doesn't matter what people say," he explained. "Think about if we listened to what people say all the time, imagine how crazy it would make you."

Ex-cruise worker files lawsuit against Travolta
LOS ANGELES (AP) ? A former cruise line worker has filed a federal lawsuit in Los Angeles against John Travolta, accusing the "Pulp Fiction" star of embracing him naked after complaining about neck pain.
The lawsuit was filed June 21 by Fabian Zanzi and seeks unspecified damages.
Zanzi contends Travolta disrobed and held him against his will during a Caribbean cruise three years ago.
The actor was accused recently in another federal lawsuit of groping two masseurs. The case quickly unraveled after Travolta's attorney, Martin Singer, discredited one of the anonymous accusers by showing the actor was across the country on the day of one of the alleged incidents.
Singer did not immediately return a call seeking comment Tuesday from The Associated Press, but earlier, he told City News Service that Zanzi's complaint was "another ludicrous lawsuit with inane claims."

Producers said Tuesday that "Motown," with 81-year-old Gordy writing his own book, will open in the spring of 2013 at a Nederlander Theatre to be announced. It will be directed by Charles Randolph-Wright.
The songs will include those famous by Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross and The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, Michael Jackson and The Jackson Five.
Says producer Doug Morris: "This is an amazing opportunity for everyone to experience the Motown phenomenon through the eyes of the man who lived it."

IR introduces power MOSFETs in TO-220 Fullpak : John Day's ...
International Rectifier (IR?) ?introduced a family of automotive-qualified power MOSFETs housed in a rugged TO-220 fullpak package for automotive applications including BLDC motors, pumps and cooling systems. The TO-220 fullpak package eliminates the need for additional insulating hardware to simplify design and improve overall system reliability. The new devices are qualified according to AEC-Q101 standards, feature an environmentally friendly, lead-free and RoHS compliant bill of materials.
The new 55V planar devices are available as standard and logic level gate drive MOSFETs in N and P channel configuration, and offer a maximum on-state resistance (Rds(on)) as low as 8mOhm.
?Based on IR?s proven planar technology, this new family of MOSFETs available in a TO-220 fullpak package performs well in linear mode and in automotive applications where a rugged, reliable MOSFET is needed to drive highly inductive loads,? said Jifeng Qin, Product Manager, Automotive MOSFETs, IR?s Automotive Products Business Unit.
IR?s automotive MOSFETs are subject to dynamic and static part average testing combined with 100 percent automated wafer level visual inspection as part of IR?s automotive quality initiative targeting zero defects. AEC-Q101 qualification requires that there is no more than a 20 percent change in Rds(on) after 1,000 temperature cycles of testing. However, in extended testing IR?s new AU bill of materials demonstrated a maximum Rds(on) shift of less than 10% at 5,000 temperature cycles, showing the strength and ruggedness of the bill of materials.

BEREA, Ohio (AP) ? Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III said the arrest of a former Baylor basketball player for allegedly trying to extort money from the Heisman Trophy winner is a good lesson for NFL rookies.
"There's vultures out there, people looking to climb on top of all your money," Griffin said Tuesday, taking a break from teaching football skills to kids during a Play 60 event at the Browns' training facility.
Griffin would not comment directly on the arrest of Richard Khamir Hurd, 25, who was arraigned Monday in federal court in Waco, Texas, for allegedly threatening to release "derogatory information" about Griffin unless he was paid a "substantial sum."
According to court documents, Hurd contacted a representative from a St. Louis agency last week, threatening to publicize information about a client unless he was paid. The representative is identified in documents only by the initials B.D.
Griffin's agent is St. Louis-based Ben Dogra. The documents don't name Griffin.
Griffin said his situation, which coincided with his participation in the league's four-day rookie symposium, is a perfect cautionary tale for young players transitioning into the pros. This week, the NFC's rookies have heard from players like Michael Vick and Adam "Pacman" Jones about their off-the-field problems.
"It's something I knew was coming," Griffin said, "and when you hear those guys (former NFL players) talk about being careful and keep your circle real small ? all those things come back to you when you hear about stuff like this. You've got to be careful with who you trust."
Griffin enjoys being around people, and the No. 2 overall draft pick said it can be challenging to keep private.
"There's a fine line between guarding yourself and being guarded," he said. "I think I do a pretty good job of guarding myself, even with this situation. It's just something unfortunate that happened so I think guys can learn. It's just something that everyone can learn from and just move on."
Hurd played basketball at Baylor as a walk-on, from the 2004-05 season through the 2007-08 season, after a high school career at Heritage Christian Academy in Cleveland north of Houston, according to Baylor sports information. His brother, Lamar Hurd, also played at Heritage Christian and later at Oregon State.

Are you soaking it up? and holding it way down inside you like an old sponge?? Be careful.? Just like an old sponge that?s held its liquid a little too long, we may start to get stinky in a day or two.? I?m referring to ?soaking up? all that wonderful information that comes to us mainly through our televisions, radios and computers.? Information that is then refortified and nourished through conversations with our friends or relatives.
?
It?s unfortunately a fact of life.? Every minute of every day, the media presents ?news? that is frequently disturbing.? Coverage of terrorist acts, wars, airline crashes, natural disasters ? all kinds of information that show, sometimes in graphic detail, the tragic events of our world and the how they are impacting the lives of our fellow man.
?
Here?s the problem.? Many of us humans have a tendency to become over-focused on these events.? For some strange reason, beyond a reasonable desire to be informed, we find ourselves sitting in front of our televisions or our computers viewing, listening to and reading everything we can about the current ?terrible event?.? We are ?soakin? it up?!
The unfortunate result is that we soon start to feel the negative emotions associated with our current focus.? Don?t get me wrong.? It?s normal ? and good ? to empathize ? to feel compassion toward those people who are experiencing tough times.? That?s just a nice expression of our love toward our fellow man.? It?s not good for us personally however, to dwell on the negatives ? to continually shove this stuff into our little brains to ferment into mind sludge.? Whether we consciously realize it or not, it won?t take long for our bodies to respond to this mental goo.? We may find that we?re not feeling quite as well as we did a few days ago.? We may find it harder to deal with the pressures of our personal lives.? We may notice that our patience level has dropped somewhat ? that we?re now kind of cranky and out of sorts.? Whatever the effect, it?s our body?s normal reaction to a bombardment of negatives.
?
So here?s a suggestion.? If you find that you?ve been spending a lot of time in front of your TV or computer soaking up negatives - and you are having a tendency to ?feel? the emotions associated with this mental input, take a break from it.? Switch to the cartoon channel, watch a comedy video, take a walk, bathe the dog, read a book, work on your stamp collection, play with your kids, mow the lawn, go to the mall ? anything that will divert your attention away from the yucky stuff and more toward those things you enjoy doing.? Give your mind a healing dose of positives.? Trust me ? you?ll feel better?

Overview:
This book was part of my Goodreads book challenge, and as I remember seeing adverts for the movie, I thought why not. It had Tom Hanks in it; so I was immediately interested and felt it could be good read.
Indeed it was, although it was very different to what I expected.

It focuses on Oskar, a nine-year-old boy in New York who lost his father in 911. He?s a very smart, inquisitive little thing, and he?s sure his dad left him a treasure map of some kind; a chance to have one final adventure.
So he ventures around New York and meets many interesting folk, the story following his journey as well as splitting time with the insight of a man and woman.
I thought it would be a more happy go lucky story, which is crazy when you think of the premise, but I thought it would centre around his dad actually leaving him an adventure and a close up to their relationship of years gone by. This isn?t the case, but I found myself really liking it regardless.

The Good:
I loved Oskar. God I bet he?s annoying to meet, but what a charmer he is. And when he says Jose, well, I love it. He is by far the stand out in this story, and to feel so connected with a nine-year-old mind is great.
I also loved the side story too, once I gathered what it was about, and feel it adds real depth to proceedings. I knew I was going down a particular path, and at times I felt I had it figured out, but the author keeps thing just far enough away to make the story compelling.
Finally, I love the inclusion of pictures, not good ones, but awful, grainy snaps. It makes it very quaint and personal, and it feels like a child actually had a hand in things.

The Bad:
Some of the side stories can drag a little, and I must say, it took me a while to get into things. If I had less patience I could have easily left this story early doors, or begun skipping parts.
Overall it?s a top book. It?s well written, very compelling, emotional, and rather clever. And some of the characters, wow, I love them!

Book Cover:
I read the Ebook and got the version with the movie type cover. I?m not a fan. It draws your attention with the picture of the boy, but it?s hard to read what everything says. There?s also a lot of small text floating about, which I couldn?t read.
Not bad for a paperback, but easy to forget as an Ebook. I?m a fan of simplicity, and simple this is not.
Book Marketing:
Well, there isn?t any, really. It?s well laid out, and there?s good info about the publisher, but very little about the author. Consider Jonathan has another bestseller, Everything Is Illuminated, well, there?s no mention of this.
I?ve said it once and I?ll say it again. It?s lazy and things need to change. Make an Ebook count, and in my opinion, this fails miserably here.

Author Website & Engagement:
I?m afraid we have another author who doesn?t see online engagement as an important thing. However, I won?t go too hard on him, because in general, I don?t think his audience is online too much.
My initial feeling, which could be wrong, is that his readers are largely in their thirties and beyond, and newspapers and book signings provide a great way to connect.
However, you don?t need much of a presence to have good presence. No presence online is rarely a good thing. I do feel its shame, and another cross in the established, big time Author ?box?.

Overall I?m a fan and would happily recommend this book. It?s a very touching tale, but also rather dark. It has some twists and many layers, and I honestly felt like I?d learnt something after reading this.
The marketing side of things is poor, and therefore does set it back, but the story is superb, and as such, I want to read Everything Is Illuminated too.
