Mobile Phones Cause 'Five-Fold Increase In Brain Cancer Risk ...

www.emfnews.org www.emfnews.org www.emfnews.org ? www.emfnews.org People who started using mobile as teenagers and have been doing so for more than a decade are at a five-fold risk of developing a common type of brain cancer, new evidence indicates. The Swedish study found large increased incidence of astrocytoma, the most common form of a malignant brain tumour type called glioma, in those who had been using mobiles for over 10 years. Campaigners said the research, published in the International Journal of Oncology, was further evidence of the need to educate children of the potential dangers of talking on mobile phones. Researchers from the University Hospital of ?rebro and Ume? University examined the mobile and cordless phone use of more than 1200 Swedes, who were diagnosed with malignant brain cancer between 1997 and 2003. Of those, the 905 who were still alive were interviewed about their phone usage. For the remaining 346 who had died., researchers asked their relatives about their loved-ones? telephone habits. They then compared this to phone use information on almost 2500 ?controls? who were either living and had no brain cancer, or had died of other causes. Each ?case? and each ?control? was matched for age, sex and social class. www.emfnews.org www.emfnews.org www.emfnews.org

Throat cancer- Its Treatment and Causes

Article by james sameul

Throat cancer involves cancer of the part of your throat just behind your mouth. Throat cancer is usually painless in their early stages or may have minor symptoms.Cancer affects the body?s basic unit, the cell. Cancer occurs when cells become abnormal and keep dividing and forming more cells without control or order.

Throat Cancer Treatement

Some common treatment options are surgery, radiation and chemotherapy.

If the tumor that contains the cancer cells is small, either surgery or radiation therapy alone can be used to eliminate the tumor. If the tumor is not small, or has spread to lymph nodes in the neck, a more aggressive treatment of radiation and chemotherapy is often needed.

This is the cancer which may be found at its advanced stage. So it is an urge need that the patient should be careful while choosing the correct physician for his treatment. This treatment is aimed at destruction of the cancer and prevention of spread of the cancer to the other parts of the body. The earlier it is diagnosed the earlier it is treated.Treatment is aimed at destruction of the cancer and prevention of spread of the cancer to other parts of the body. The earlier throat cancer is diagnosed, the better the prospect of recovery. If the treatment is not given then it can grow and can cause to death.

If removing the tumor is successful, a patient may need to undergo reconstructive surgery. This will help with the cosmetic changes a patient will experience after surgical treatment. This will also help to reshape the throat for better chewing, swallowing and speaking. Speech therapy may be another option to consider after the treatment plan is completed, if necessary.

Occasionally however this treatment doesn?t work and surgery is required to remove the larynx, or voice box. This means that normal speech is no longer possible and a permanent laryngectomy is required, which is a hole made in the windpipe that maintains the airway necessary for breathing. Following surgery, radiotherapy will be needed again in order to kill any stray cancerous cells that were growing outside of the larynx.

With the CRT, two or three beams of radiation are aimed at the tumor, but the surrounding tissues and organs such as the oral cavity and salivary glands, receive that same high dose as the tumor. In some of the patients, the salivary glands are totally destroyed and patients can also develop severe dryness in the mouth and a poor quality of life.

Common Causes:

Bacterial infection: Strep throat is the most common bacterial infection. It is mainly caused by streptococcal bacteria. Strep throat can lead to rheumatic fever which can trigger heart valve problems or inflammation of the kidney.

Other bacteria can cause sore throats ? e.g. gonorrhoea is an example of a sexually transmitted infection.

Viruses: The majority of sore throats are due to an infection with a virus; there is a large variety of viruses which cause the common types of sore throats. A well-known virus is the Epstein-Barr virus, which causes glandular fever and glandular fever tonsillitis.

Tonsillitis It is an inflammation of the tonsils. Chronic tonsillitis occurs when there is so much damage to the tonsils. In this condition, the throat is sore most of the time, often accompanied by bad breath.
