Review: Z-Curve Bow and Zing-Shot Launcher from Zing Toys | Just a ...

I have three daughters ? which, as I?ve discovered makes it very difficult to review many items that are more specifically aimed at boys. I do try if it?s something that the girls might enjoy ? and they often do like them. But there are some things that I know would be much more thoroughly reviewed (and enjoyed) if tried out by boys. I have a friend who is the perfect tester for boy products ? she has two of them right in between my kids? ages (9 and 6-1/2). So I?ll be asking her to review products for me from time to time and am also hoping to bring a couple more reviewers on in the future too, so that I can make sure to bring all of you a better variety, now that my kids are getting older. Please welcome Kristi from The Wheels Are Rolling, reviewing the Z-Curve Bow and Zing-Shot Launcher from Zing Toys!

Here?s Kristi?s take on them:

This particular toy was definitely right up my two boys? alley. As a rule, through the years I have avoided ?shooting? toys of sorts. But boys being boys, they have started asking for things such as bows and arrows. And being scouts, they will be learning to use these items correctly in the next few years. For this reason, I agreed when Deb asked me if I would be interested in trying out the Z-Curve Bow and Zing-Shot Launcher from Zing Toys.

The big box came and the boys were very excited. I tried the ?not in the house boys? approach, but it didn?t last long. Mostly because I opened it up to see how it worked and was hooked immediately. It was so much fun that the boys actually had to beg me to let them have a turn :) We started with the Z-Curve Bow. It is a very sturdy plastic and foam construction. It only took a minute to figure out how the arrows connected to the bow, and very quickly, we were sending the one arrow with a suction cup and the other two with bounce back foam end flying across the room. I handed it over to the boys, who were as enthralled with it as I was. And the bounce back arrows really do bounce off the ground and back in the direction of the launcher. We stacked some cups as a target and the force of the arrows sent the cups FLYING across the room. Definitely time to head outside.

Once outside, we were able to see just how far this thing could soar. The information boasts that it can fly 125 feet. Now, we didn?t actually measure, but I have to say that almost every time any of us launched, it spanned at least two people?s yards either direction. Good thing we have good relationships with our neighbors on both sides! :) We then graduated to how HIGH the Z-Curve could shoot. So I sent the boys to the back yard and their next feat was to see if they could get it over the house and into the front yard. Believe it or not, after only a couple of practice runs, Noah had it flying over the house to the front yard. Yes, we did have quite a few tree mishaps.. but that was just part of the fun.

We next decided to try out the Zing-Shot Launcher which is basically a foam sling shot. This one was smaller and a bit more difficult to use. Noah and Steve (my hubby) figured how to make it fly but Aaron (6 years old) struggled a bit with it. I actually struggled a little too. As far as launch distance, the balls are small and fly quite far. And yes, they too were able to clear the roof and fly to the other side of the house. The recommended age for both of these items is 8+ so because of the difficulty in lining up the little balls, I would agree with this age recommendation for the Zing-Shot.

Both toys have a way to store the accessories onto the items, which make it easy to store and not have to worry about having to search for the arrows of balls every time we want to play with it. Both toys are very sturdy and were able to withstand quite a bit of rough play at the hands of the Wheelz Family. Noah asked me at the end of the day if I would have actually bought this product for him if we hadn?t gotten to try it for free. Before we got it, I would have been a skeptic. But I have to admit, after playing with it and seeing that my boys could play with it in safe and appropriate ways, that I would indeed have considered purchasing this for them. At a price of $19.99 for the Z-Curve and $9.99 for the Zing-Shot I think these are great toys and would definitely recommend them and have even considered getting a second Z-Curve for the family.
